Metacognitive Reflection
When it comes to reading I'm the type of person that needs a place where its completely quiet with no distactions. I get side tracked really easily. I can't concentrate if there is noise or other things going on around me while I try to read. I won't get the material and I will forget what I have read. Its hard for me to understand some things because of the language used in the passage. I have to break it down and look up words I don't know meanings of. With the text book for History I have difficult remembering the things I have read. It's just a little challenging for me, and things just don't make sense at times. Its a lot going on. I've managed to learned to break down and take notes of the important details of a paragraph so that way I could go back to it later and really comprehend it. I try to replace the big words with ones I know so it would be much easier for me to understand and actually take in the information I have read. Now when I read, I go to my room and turn off everything that distracts me so I could actually get things done.

Journal Prompt #1
My prior experience with U.S history wasn't the best one. I last took history my junior year of high school. History was never an easy subject for me; I can't seem to remember much of what I learned that year. To make it worse, I didn't have a good teacher. I tried my best to pay attention to what she was covering that day but then she would go on and talk about a completely different thing. It was very confusing. The text book was more helpful to me. She was a really nice teacher but her teaching strategies weren't the best ones. She wouldn't really discuss or lecture our class. She
would talk to the class for about twenty minutes and then she
would have us answer questions in the text book or have us take notes on
videos we watched. Everyone would get lost during her short lessons. Even though that class wasn't helpful, I did pass it with a B because I did all the class work and homework she assigned. This semester I know I have a great teacher and I know this because he makes history interesting and understandable for me. I know it's not going to be easy because history isn't my favorite subject. I'm going to have to really focus and try not to get behind in class.

I am..
My name is Itzel. I am eighteen years old and currently attending San Jose City College. It is my second semester at City. I plan on transferring after I finish general ed to go to a four year college. I want to major in Criminal Justice and become a lawyer one day. I am working full time aside of going to school which could be difficult at times. I have four siblings, two brothers and two sisters. I am the oldest out of the girls, and the first one to be going to college. I love my family, they are always there for me and so supportive of my decisions. On my spare time I like to go out with my friends and go shopping!
