Metacognitive Reflection
When it comes to reading I'm the type of person that needs a place where its completely quiet with no distactions. I get side tracked really easily. I can't concentrate if there is noise or other things going on around me while I try to read. I won't get the material and I will forget what I have read. Its hard for me to understand some things because of the language used in the passage. I have to break it down and look up words I don't know meanings of. With the text book for History I have difficult remembering the things I have read. It's just a little challenging for me, and things just don't make sense at times. Its a lot going on. I've managed to learned to break down and take notes of the important details of a paragraph so that way I could go back to it later and really comprehend it. I try to replace the big words with ones I know so it would be much easier for me to understand and actually take in the information I have read. Now when I read, I go to my room and turn off everything that distracts me so I could actually get things done.

I agree that having a quiet and also well lit location to do your work helps. I too am easily side tracked by my surroundings. In my case though, noise does not actually distract me unless I find the work I’m doing boring. Those would be the only instants I would require a quiet surrounding. My preference in that case would actually be to have a “study buddy”. Someone I believe is in tone with their work or also wishes to improve their capability of doing it. The person would be a source of motivation, in which I think they would encourage you to finish your work and help you understand the material better, because now you also have someone to refer to when you don’t understand. I myself like being challenged, which is why I like that you found a method to improve yourself.
ReplyDeletei also agree with you! I cannot read in a noisy place or hear anyone talking so i can really relate to you. Helping one another helps both the people twice as much in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI truly understand your emphasis with breaking down sections from the text. Thats a great strategy towards any text especially dense ones that colleges usually provide. Staying focused is key, so keep on keeping on with the acknowledgement about key study areas that bests suits your comfort. Thank you for the great reading, hope to read more in the near future!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy!
